The NYTimes did an interesting spread on "extreme beers," versions of European beers that Americans have supped up. These are things like "Double IPA" or "Hop Wallop." Some brewers and beer critics did a taste test and you can read all about their results.
The beers tested:
Dogfish Head 90 Minute
Lagunitas Maximus IPA
Oskar Beers - Gordon Beer
Southern Tier - Un-earthly
Weyerbacher - Double Simcoe IPA
There are some other great multimedia links on this page to Belgian brews, Porters and other browns.

Any special ties for you to the Gordon Beer? ;)
I tasted an "Imperial Oktoberfest" a while back. I think all this imperializing can get a wee bit too carried away at times -- I'm waiting for Rogue or DFH to come out with an "Imperial Mild" - HA!
Seriously, though, it's great to see the NYT covering things like this. The DFH 90 minute is a local favorite, for sure. I'll be curious to try the Weyerbacher Simcoe -- I've yet to have a Weyerbacher I didn't give high praise to.
I have a single bottle of Dogfish Head 90-Minute IPA on reserve in our pantry - for consumption once I get a new job. My mouth's already watering...
